Sometimes I wish he’d provided more detail regarding the settlements in Rhudaur and Cardolan especially. I have trouble envisaging how extensive those were. It’s too easy to think of it all as empty wilderness. But it’s just not important to the narrative, sadly.
Also, the traffic along the east road passes through Waymeet, Frogmorton and Whitfurrows. There is plenty of traffic (dwarves and elves at least) passing through the Shire. Perhaps the difficulty in finding it is more one of identifying it?
