honestly I thought the perk system went against the entire concept of "get better at something by using it". Perks became a limited ressource. Perks also ranged from massive buffs to quality of life features (in skyrim at least), so some were always no brainers while others were useless..
Yeah, there's a lot of room for improvement, which is partly why I want to make a swing at it. You kinda lose the fantasy of having a class when you can sort of level up any skill. Same issue when you try to make it all work with character attributes. I got a few ideas though.

Happy birthday! Hope it's a great one!
The more I think about it, the more I think prototyping my own version of that system will be my next goal as an indie developer. Godot has been fun to learn, and now I feel like my goals might actually be in reach.
I really like rpgs where skills go up naturally by using them. I think Morrowind might be one of the early ones to get it right, but then sorta messed it up as the series became more mainstream. I like spending time planning my character stats. I like that the game lets me mess it up.
Warm up for today Depending on how I far I get in this drawing this will be another multiple post type of day
Small personal doodle. Was in the mood for some shrinking :) And what's better than a friend who seems to have way too much fun testing my own potions on me? Wonder what could happen next tho!
