the reason so many millennials don’t take 9/11 stuff seriously is that we took it deadly, terrifyingly serious when it happened, and then grew up watching the people we trusted to guide us through this serious event instead use it to fuel the most deeply unserious 20 years in american history.
I still remember where I was. In front of a bakery with radio morning show on thinking someone pulled a lame joke, who would be such an ass. Litteral first though. My God.

I remember reading an anecdote that some critic called 9/11 "The first great artistic work of the 21st century". That I think encapsulates the weird duality of experience growing up during the early aughts. We were victims of our parents unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Gotta feel for the kids that went through covid at the same age we were when we were experiencing 9/11. it’s substantially worse and we somehow took it far less seriously. Those kids are gonna grow up far more warped than we are
and, like, not to get political but we were having two 9/11s per day of covid deaths just a couple years ago. while that wasn't intentional murder it was also an unacceptably high number. i feel like that whataboutism asshole but 3000 deaths hits different now

Watching Ted Cruz go off on NYC values to then clap when Trump responded with NYC values is 9/11 was one of the most demonstrable things about how none of these peoples actually care about it.
yes AND the older i got the better i came to understand the motivations of the suicide bombers. relative to the scale and scope of capitalism those attacks were extremely narrowly targeted, and relative to the harm caused by capitalism they were deserved
