Just accidentally clicked on a hearing aid advert on insta and suspect I’ll never hear the last of it.

Think Barcelona is a lot more organic, the space also feels very dense maybe because it's heavily lit, it's very busy despite being so vast.

Liverpool is one of my favourite cities, visited it a lot over the years because we have family up there, and other stuff. Also recently visited the Sagrada Familia, interestingly not a cathedral, it's a church apparently.

Seems it's right up there, third tallest in Britain against two with spires.

The bell tower of Liverpool Cathedral is a dizzying space, that much volume so high up and the angle of the beams supporting the roof above

Tallest non-spired religious building in the world isn't it?

That's the other one, this is the Anglican cathedral.

The sheer scale of the building is incredible too, the light in the trail of the late afternoon sun. There was a choral evensong in progress, I’m as secular as you can get but it was just incredibly moving. The beauty humans can make.

The interior below the cross.
Looking towards the altar, the reread of dwarfs me, the building dwarfs it.

Particularly taken by these figures by Edward Carter Preston. Commissioned by the architect Giles Gilbert Scott, started in 1931 it occupied the next 30 years of Preston’s life. He had previously sculpted the relief on the Great War Dead Man’s Penny.

Having visited Liverpool RC cathedral many times, I had my second visit to the Anglican cathedral at the weekend. What a soaring neo-gothic modernist treat. It’s vast, linear and gorgeous.
