His results indicate that outbred rescuers are better, although inbred rescuers still have positive effects on productivity. The next steps are to look at whole genome resequencing for the populations to compare genetic diversity. #CEEC24

Using Red Flour Beetles, George uses an experimental design to test which rescuing population is better, assessing population fitness over 10 generations. #CEEC24

Genetic bottlenecks and inbreeding depression is a significant threat to species and isolated populations around the world. Sometimes conservationists use genetic rescue to minimise these threats, but should they use inbred or outbred rescuers? #CEEC24

The take home is that BNG doesn’t change opinions of a project, instead it supports existing opinions: those who think the road is acceptable use it to justify the road’s biodiversity impacts, whilst those who think it's unacceptable believe it doesn't make up for what was lost. #CEEC24
