I had really hoped Mastodon could have become the new Twitter. But if Blue Sky keeps its promise of promoting federation instead of becoming just another walled garden at the whims of its owner, I am OK with Blue Sky becoming the new Twitter.

The utility twitter had came from the fact that it was one shared space across communities. “Federating” defeats the purpose of this and is a dead end idea that only appeals to the kind of Linux adjacent tech people who are already going to mastodon.

I’ve seen some niche tech communities go to mastodon, but it doesn’t feel like there’s excitement outside of folk who run Linux on their desktop :-( this place is definitely better than the Xitter, hope it can stay that way
