The part of the article that newlyweds are putting Kitchen Aids on their registries is irritating. Do you know how many people who can't cook their way out of a paper bag I know own this appliance & it's collecting dust? I didn't get one til I was 50, a generous gift from a friend who was moving.

A KitchenAid pro mixer was my first stand mixer after longing for one for many years. Bought it for myself as a reward for making full professor.

If someone buys you a Kitchen Aid for your registry, it should come with a solemn oath to make your own sourdough. (Also, reasons I tend towards a good rice cooker or crockpot for a registry gift!)

I think part of the appeal of putting this on your registry is that it's expensive, especially if you're a young couple, but they have a reputation for being very reliable and long-lasting so even if you don't bake a lot now, it'll still be there when you start to bake down the road.

I acquired my mother's mixer after she died and I use it almost exclusively to make pizza dough.

I have had 2. One that I had for about 15 years, and one that I have had another 5. There is no way I would go do this wooden bowl thing. That screams decorative piece rather than serious kitchen equipment. Love my KitchenAid, but not this.

My MIL gave us one about 10 years ago and we finally donated it a couple of years back because we definitely needed the space and had not turned it on once.
