Taking the criticism as it was intended, understanding your mistake, and correcting it, is already doing better. No one is perfect, but you're doing better than most, in this and many other ways.
All Tingle books, whether it's Camp Damascus or Space Raptor Butt Invasion, Bury Your Gays or Sentient Lesbian Jet Ski Gets Me Off, are serious in that they are sincere and heartfelt and art. Some are silly and light, some are dark and severe, but all are sincere and real. All prove love.
There is confusion, I think, between serious vs light as a difference in tone, and serious vs joke as a measure of sincerity and worth, and too many people equate not being serious in the first way with not being serious in the second. English is kinda a dumpster fire like this sometimes.
