We'd like to reassure UK readers that this blog was written before the announcement of the General Election: we have no plans to put these priorities on any form of stone tablet or handy, wallet-sized pledge card. But yes, we have realised how it looks.

NB - yes, those publication dates are correct. The Sussex series is numbered according to a plan and not the sequence of publication. We are aware of how confusing that is for which we can only apologise.

PS - the fun thing about Crawley is that it has at least three 'New Towns' of varying vintages in it - a medieval planned borough (tiny), a significant interwar expansion, and the New Town 'proper'. A fascinating example of the different types of urban development in England.

Fascinating - it's strange to think that the relevant volume in our Sussex series was produced - in part anyway - from what were then current documents, but which are now part of a significant archival project in their own right.
