- Fri, 2:00–2:30pm: a poster on egotropic vs. sociotropic concerns among radical right voters, w/ *Greta Groß* & Lily If you’re around, please come & share your thoughts! Otherwise, let’s meet for ☕️ (or whatever else they have in Philly). This is gonna be a great conference! Suggestions may obviously include your own work! 🎩 For now, I feel honored and curious about this opportunity. I’m excited about the department, my new colleagues, the city, and Kaiserschmarrn 4 times a week. 🗻 Thanks everyone who supported me! 🙏🏽 (7/7)Suggestions may obviously include your own work! 🎩 For now, I feel honored and curious about this opportunity. I’m sharing this here to push myself toward getting stuff done. ✅ More importantly, I know this can go in many directions — so I want to read up broadly across literatures and preferably disciplines. If you have readings/thoughts etc. I should consider, please share! I plan to conduct qual interviews to understand people’s views. In so doing, I want to develop + scale #openscience practices in qualitative research. Next, I aim to develop a quant, generalizable scale. At some point, I will turn to experiments to explain this new DV. (5/7)I plan to conduct qual interviews to understand people’s views. First, I intend to develop a lay-person understanding of citizens’ role in democracy. 🔎 Second, I want to describe and explain whatever citizens understand as “constructive citizenship behavior” in our challenging times. Instead, we citizens may support parties that do not respond to the actual challenges our societies face, may become affectively polarized or turn away from democracy. My RQ: What do ordinary citizens think they *should* + *can* do in response to societal challenges?🤓 (3/7)Instead, we citizens may support parties that do not respond to the actual challenges our societies face, may become affectively polarized or turn away from democracy. Political theorists, and political scientists more generally, have many ideas about how citizens *should* participate, be informed, respond to societal challenges etc. But we know that citizens are often too busy, disinterested, or emotional to meet these expectations 🤔. One more interesting aspect of this paper: it's a pre-registered replication of an experiment run almost ten years previously, where there WAS an effect. What do we make of this difference? We have some thoughts...
