All of that is true, and yet we can still condemn Hamas. Killing civilians - much less women and children - is simply horrific no matter who does it. Hamas doesn't want our support here either. Otherwise, they wouldn't have targeted civilians. They could've just broken the wall and walked.

As westerners, we're better off saying "Yes, Hamas is evil. However, look at how Israel treats Palestinians in general. The siege of Gaza and occupation of the West Bank must end if there is going to be peace after this."
