I always wanted to get into Anne McCaffrey's Pern series, but every time I tried, I kind of bounced off of it for one reason or another. I knew I LIKED it, but something didn't click. Over the last couple days though, I tried again. And something is different this time. the image is what I imagine at the beginning of the book, of someone looking out over peaks and other holds in pre-dawn light, as an eerie red star glows bright despite the glow of the approaching sunlight.
