…(incidentally, also his ex), the narrative goes places and has subtext that I'd be remiss to spoil in a review. Suffice it to say it's thoughtful and impactful. On top of super-smooth third-person melee and shooting action are a swath of difficulty options. This game is great.

…enamored by the short-ish and same-ish levels that didn't feel at all like the adventure I expected. Knowing the praise it got as a PC exclusive, I wanted to stick with it; and now I get it. Ostensibly the story of an addict trying to save the world from the lord of vampires…

Mini-Review: El Paso, Elsewhere (PS5) My early impressions at an hour or two in were mixed. I loved the Max Payne vibe and the intentional low-poly, low-texture PS1/PS2 throwback art style where the protagonist's face is just a blurry texture on a simple shape, but I was less…

…really wanted that platinum trophy. The last boss was the only truly punishing part, but extra grinding (not much needed until then) got me through it eventually. All this to say I really enjoyed Edge of Eternity. It's far from perfect, but it hit all the right notes for me.

…totally broke immersion or ruined the experience. In fact, it's just the kind of highly ambitious but flawed game I'm drawn to. I spent 80+ hours on this journey. It could have been half that if skipping side quests and playing on a difficulty lower than Nightmare, but I…

…rewind them to play back your efforts in reverse; core to both the gameplay and story. The story campaign is sizable, and it comes with creation tools (PC only) and lets you play other people's levels (on console too). Was this really made (mostly) by just one guy? It's great.

…great central puzzle mechanic that I haven't seen in any other Portal-like. Yes, you get the by-now familiar elements like light bridges, laser beams, buttons, blocks, and bounce pads, but that's mixed in with a time rewind mechanic that lets you move objects around and then…

Mini-Review: The Entropy Centre (PS5) I lamented in a recent review of another first-person puzzle game that what I missed -- and what draws me to the genre -- is when these games have a story and are actually fun to play and explore. The Entropy Centre hits the mark, with a…

…among the best in the genre, especially for its time. An argument could be made that Shadow Hearts could stand shoulder to shoulder with other PS2 RPG greats like Kingdom Hearts, Persona, and Final Fantasy. I liked this one almost as much as SH: Covenant. Weird, cool, very fun.
