Some of the taller salvias might work—this is salvia uglinosa. About 36”. It really comes into its own as the weather begins to cool. It’s an annual for me.

I can see how that would be the case in a climate where it wouldn't get winter-killed. Here in Massachusetts, it doesn't survive the winter.

Verbena bonariensis. It’s an annual where I am (MA) but a great self-seeder.
