3/8 It formally opened at the end of 1918 to a 2 day city-wide celebration. The variety of windows on its façade hints at the many amenities inside, including restaurants, 2-story gymnasiums, sun deck, guest rooms, barbershop, billiard rooms, bowling alleys, and ballroom.

4/8 The grand lobby has a baronial fireplace, coffered ceilings, and unusually fine terra-cotta made by Brioschi-Minuti, who moved their workshop from New York City to University Avenue in St Paul at Stem's request.
