Yes. I’m sandwich gen, living 1400 miles from my mom. She recently needed *short-term* in-home care, and setting it up was a logistical, financial, and emotional mess. Knowing long-term care would be covered feels life-changing to me.
One of the benefits not talked about is that Medicare coverage would not only help with the expense but also create a large enough market to drive an increase in PROVIDERS. When my mom needed at-home care, it was so hard to find caregivers!
My mother got a 3rd party guardian (long story) and she had her sht down cold. Getting my mom moved, handling new medical carers, etc. everything a non-pro would find confusing. There should be consultants for this. Call em Sunset Advisors or something
Not looking forward to this myself - folks are living in the country some 15 minutes from town, 30 minutes from the closest small city with medical care - and no apparent plans for when they can no longer live independently.
