How do you make sure your text fits? You leave out information and use abbreviations. All of that means less nuance, more misunderstandings, more absolutes. And it's not like I want to write entire essays. There's a lot of room for messages between 300 characters and, say, 10.000 characters.
The reason I dislike threads is that they force a kind of writing that's incredibly awkward. You could say that posts in a thread are like paragraphs, but unlike normal paragraphs, they aren't shaped by the content — the content is shaped by them. You're pressured to make a complete point per post.

I'm often in the situation where I write about something, hit the character limit, but then the remaining text isn't enough to warrant a new post. I already write as briefly as possible, so if I want to make it fit it feels like I'm removing information that should actually be there. And that sucks.
I don't think a lot of people can decode gzip in their mind 🥴
