Not the same thing. This would be a relevant argument if you found out the artwork that was comissioned was traced over someone elses.

The artwork generated from AI isn't a direct copy, but the AI looking at all similar examples to what you're asking for and then creating what it thinks is the amalgam of them all. How is that different from an artist looking at those same examples to learn their art style?
