I always make my bootable thumbdrives by using dd to copy the ISO directly to the raw drive. I don't know why, but I've never found a GUI tool that's actually reliable.
Yeah dd if=isofile of=/dev/sdX bs=1M is my go-to. Just make absolutely sure you get the sdX correct 😁
