John Amos, a running back turned actor who appeared in scores of TV shows — including groundbreaking 1970s programs such as the sitcom “Good Times” and the epic miniseries “Roots” — has died. He was 84.

He played the stoic patriarch in “Good Times” and the adult Kunta Kinte in the miniseries “Roots.” He was also a fast-food entrepreneur in “Coming to America.”

Condolences to the family. He was an amazing actor and a great person, he will be sorely missed.

Thought he died when John McClain kicked him off the wing of a 747 and he got sucked into a jet engine. Well, nevertheless . . . RIP.
