Indeed. But the shoe often feels on the other foot in Uk unis where the students are able to apply for coursework extensions fairly easily, but my marking still needs to be turned around in 3 weeks (even if I’m sick or the sky falls) 🙃

That's actually part of the reason why I've started giving students a limited population of fixed length extensions they can request on most assignments (= fuzzy deadlines on reviews/revisions), but maintain hard deadlines for things like exams (= fixed grant deadlines).
