like yeah. his aesthetics are beautiful but he's using this kind of storytelling specifically to explore these themes. yes i am still thinking about the boy and the heron. but i am also thinking about the wind rises. he has spent his last 2 movies trying to reconcile this as he nears the end
i am so unqualified to write an essay about the boy & the heron but if i could like record a single podcast ep with another scholar or two who knows abt wwii & fantasy media i would want to do that
Not enough people give The Wind Rises the credit it deserves. It's such a sorrowful movie but it's also deeply incisive. We need more like it.
I need to watch this movie
Saw it yesterday and when my friend asked what I thought I was like “Shhh I’m still thinking,” meanwhile a bunch of children (animation undergrads) sitting behind us laughing about how they fell asleep in the quiet moments and woke up and it was soooo weird
Hmm. Should I go see it tomorrow … it’s playing near me
wait hell yes i didn't know any of this but it makes literally all of the sense??? thank u
