Keel's Mothman Prophecies is excellent on a similar point, which is that we create category errors (and disserve reality) by only ever looking at the "plausible" encounters that fit into neat boxes, ie cryptid, UFO, when in fact lots of people have strange encounters with far more unrational things.

I haven’t read any Keel yet, but I agree. Our attempts to put strange phenomena into separate tidy categories is foolish. It’s also folly to assume we fully understand objective reality and all our categorizations of it are correct and unchanging. The world just isn’t that simple.
