It's that rare museum in Paris that is a) full of great art; and b) human-scaled, not exhausting. You always come out of the Rodin Museum feeling enlightened and full of joy.
If you've never visited the Musée Rodin at his old house in Paris, pin it IMMEDIATELY to the top of your to-do list next time you're in town. Far and away the best museum in the city.
I love that painting. Years later, I stayed in a Paris apartment just a few yards from the studio where he painted it. It rightfully has a plaque on the door.
I didn't think I liked van Gogh until I (accidentally) saw some in person. I'd lined up at the exhibition door for the d'Orsay instead of the main door, and felt ripped off paying to go in, but was immediately overwhelmed by the pop of vG's colours. None of the reproductions ever capture this blue.
I've never found Rothko appealing, but I was shocked to my core in Buffalo seeing the Albright-Knox's Jackson Pollock. Abstract has never been my bag, but I was glued to the bench in front of this for a half hour, easily. That blue was singing to me.
Planned my whole first European trip around seeing Caravaggio paintings, but didn't realise there was one in Berlin. My first in-person Caravaggio was a surprise, but it was like I *knew* it was in the room. My eyes went immediately to it from fifty feet away.
Can I ask what brand? Shoes are always a problem for me!
