As a fellow decentralized protocol person for the past decade, Paul is 100% spot on here. Without someone focusing on building an actual *product* with the intention of it sticking around for longer than it takes for them to get bored, these projects will die.

Or worse than death, they will limp on with a tiny userbase that the maintainers feel just guilty enough to not abandon, leading to that maintainer being exceptionally unhappy and wasting a ton of their time that could go on to more interesting projects.
doesn't currently really look like Bluesky is going to do much better whether it is product focused or not. Not being a community thing means it is also on a timer to start making lots of money or die.
product is hard - super exciting in the initial build then customers start to criticise, sales dilute or divert the vision and close to launch it becomes just endless small boring updates - to stay the full course needs strength

Isn’t that basically mastodon? Very protocol heavy but the apps are very Balkanized and I doesn’t feel cohesive the way this does.
