I know it probably doesn’t lessen the embarrassment of the memory, but fwiw I’m impressed by school-age you’s courage. I probably would have backed out too.

Adult me told my wife no one is dancing at our wedding and when we fought about it I had to explain this memory to her So I really appreciate that but I don't think I'm brave I just feel a strong sense of catholic guilt when I back out of commitments 🙃
