Good luck finding a John Huntsman type.

Has this strategy ever actually worked for a Democratic presidential candidate in modern history?

Even though I’m progressive, I understand that, as long as we have the Electoral College and out-of-control gerrymandering, she needs to appeal to conservatives as well as progressives. And I’m happy to take a slight backseat in order to get this bus to the next stop as quickly as possible.

Haley’s policies are Trump in a skirt.

She's running the best campaign of the three people who've run against Trump and it isn't even close. Relentlessly on message. Good instincts.

No thanks

Maybe it would be Haley, stranger things have happened.

Also because everyone does this in normal times. The opposite party gets the sort of condescending Sec of Transportation (though not a bad appointment now!) or the serious Sec of Defense. It repels zero base voters and potentially gets some swings.

I’m guessing it will be Liz Cheney. Because I doubt any GOP Senators in states with Dem governors are going to jump ship. But it would be worth it if there was. Whoever it is, give them the VA which is a bipartisan agency anyway and not really any arena for partisan policy-making.
