Vance adapting the British conservatives' rhetoric on experts regarding Brexit, except that while it arguably did take actual expertise to (correctly) predict that Brexit would hurt the British economy, to predict that a tariff will raise prices only requires knowing what a tariff is.

True, tenure is not strong enough to survive the strains of the single most divisive issue in global politics today. But it should be obvious that imperfect protection is better than zero protection and no job security at all, which is what those with no tenure have.

Absolutely heartbroken to learn of Dikembe Mutombo's untimely passing. A story: one day in 2010, I got the most random phone call to my office at Morehouse. It was Dikembe's personal assistant, asking if I'd be willing to meet at his office to talk about the D.R. Congo. Obviously I said yes. (1/n)
