...but when I moved down to Bath, even though (luckily) Future had a machine to do it (a holdover from the pre-digital days) I had to do it myself and the chemicals were a bit old. Those pieces have suffered the worst.
It is what it is. At least the cel hasn't yellowed yet. I've had that happen to some. I would use a photographic process (called a PMT) to transfer the linework to the acetate and that requires chemicals and washing etc. Before I was at Future the place I'd use was really good...
30+ years of being attached to a bit of background card hasn't done this cel (which was done for an issue of Anime UK) too many favours, sadly. Maybe because it was slightly glossy card?
I'm honoured :) Ooh, and do share when you've got something to show. I love a good zine.
It's lovely to hear that there were folks enjoying this stuff. It was nice that we could do things that were no just news and reviews.
That takes me back. Steve did the linework for the dolls and I painted them as cels (might still have them). My mate, Simon did the main article illo and I did the layout on it all. Seemed like we were really hitting our stride on stuff like this and it was all very exciting.
I think it fell overboard at some point.
Another 25+ year old cel painting from the archives, this time for the short-lived Ultimate Future Games magazine. Amazingly, I connected with someone who'd actually had a tattoo done of this because they liked it back in the day, which kinda blew my mind a bit.
