Lysol used to be marketed as douche that could save marriages. Due to the cresol in the product, it was also used as an abortifacient. It is unknown how many people were harmed or killed by using Lysol as either a douche or abortifacient. #HistMed#HistSci#ReproSky 🧪 🩺 🗃️

The weird thing was that at the time these ads came out, using lysol as a contraceptive may have even been intended. Contraceptives weren't legal in the states until 1965 (Griswold v. Connecticut). So the "hygiene" thing was code-word.
