Hit a sweet spot with edits today. Lifted it another level, one I don’t think I’ve hit before, and got a taste - just a taste - of a manuscript that’s almost ready. Going slow with this one, and it’s as frustrating as it is joyous, but I’ll make it perfect. Hell or high water, I will.

A week of seriously heavy edits. 3,000 words chopped… in the course of four chapters. And a whole chapter now GONE. (Only 10k words more to cut, targeting an 80k finish.) Ouch. Here’s a surviving sentence: ‘Not because I was letting it go, but because I couldn’t let it go.’

It’s a hard life. Poor bugger.

I have an author joke submitted to me that I can't publish, but I'm sure it'll be snapped up by another magazine.
