This was the eye of the aurora, from where all the rays seemed to eminate, last night in NE Fife, Scotland. 🔭

Still 5 places left and I'll be running that tour. The weather will be rubbish, but we'll have fun regardless! I'll even bring the dog, if anyone needs border collie hugs.

Castle Law hillfort, Abernethy, Fife, Scotland. Famous for the increadible survival of the sockets for timber lacing, excavated in 1896-8 and which led to the fort becoming a type site for this type of rampart. The fort is also unusual in having a dammed pond. canmore.org.uk/site/27917/c...

Down Law hillfort in Fife offers incredible views over the Howe of Fife and south, across the coast of Fife towards the Firth of Forth. I was sad to see it so badly disturbed by holes left by metal detectorists. canmore.org.uk/site/31228/d...

View of Down Law hillfort from the south, looking north showing the fort in the midground with the phone masts behind.
Looking along the annex ditch.
Looking out from the interior of the fort toward the Lomond hills.
The outer rampart and ditch with the Lomond hills in the background.
