It's like an awful form of intellectual edging; all the smart game journalists I listen to will get SO CLOSE to figuring out why digging around in the box of legos is more fun than having all your favorite pieces sorted into perfect drawers, but then miss that the friction is integral to the design.

Interested in the mechanics/design of this despite not being a romantic... If engaging with a romanceable character caused you to play AS them for a bit, maybe choosing objectives you'll need to pursue them later - Would that help shift things so you feel like a matchmaker instead of a manipulator?
