彭祖者，殷時大夫也。姓錢，名鏗，帝顓頊之孫，陸終氏之中子。歷夏而至商末，號七百歲。常食桂芝。歷陽有彭祖仙室。前世雲：禱請風雨，莫不輒應。常有兩虎在祠左右。今日祠之訖，地則有兩虎跡。～《搜神記》 Peng Zu was a longevity star who held the position of a minister during the Yin and Shang dynasties. His surname was Qian, name Keng. He was the grandson of Emperor Zhuan Xu among the Five Emperors and ranked in the middle among the sons of Lu Zhongshi. He lived through the entire Xia Dynasty and into the late Shang Dynasty, claiming to be seven hundred years old. He often consumed a Lingzhi mushroom called 'Guizhi.' In the Luyang Mountains of Anhui Province, there remains the site where Peng Zu ascended to immortality, known as 'Peng Zu Xianshi.' According to legends passed down from ancient times, prayers for good weather made at this temple were immediately answered. Two tigers used to frequent the temple's vicinity—one on each side. By the time of the Jin Dynasty, the temple had fallen into disuse, but traces of the tigers' activities could still be found near the site.
