I tell people that the difference between a deep partial and a total is like the difference between holding hands and sex.
*This is also a good explanation for why Bonnie Tyler's "Partial Eclipse of the Heart" is one of her least successful records.
I live in the path of totality and I fear the crowds!
Everything has been booked for a trip to San Antonio for months, and now it's looking like we'll have solid clouds the entire time. Boo.
Managed to catch it the last time when I only had to drive in about 2 hours. This year it's a 6 hour drive to get nearby the day before and then another 2 hours into the zone the day of to avoid paying 4-5x normal hotel prices. Planning to squat for several hours before trying to drive out again.
Definitely too much hype
Isn't that because of the time from sun to reach earth?
Cornwall '99. True.
Preparing for broken sky ... what experiment should I do? Does coolness of the experiment go up during said broken sky? Things I need to know, but not really.
Drove 9 hours to see totality in 2017. Flying 3 and driving another 3 to 10 (depending on clouds) to see it again. Completely worth it. The alt-text about breaking the sky is the best description I've heard. I remember staring at the completely black moon feeling like a hole had been cut in the sky.
