Why is the US government so concerned about tiktok when Discord is a home grown, much more insidious problem. www.wired.com/story/764-co...
Because it’s foreign which means it’s automatically worse to them
Because TikTok is a way to malign China and boost public approval for a near-future war with them that'll pump money into our military-industrial complex and keep our failing economy afloat.
Colloquially, we’ve all known people who have run into extremely poorly managed or even sketchy and fucked up discord servers. But it is so much worse on a magnitude that it’s clear Discord has no control over. And it just keeps happening!
What % of these creeps are youth pastors?
Because grandpa hasn’t heard of his kids doing discord challenges yet
there are lots of theories but mine is that they saw the format where the top half of the screen is just a meme you already saw on twitter, tumblr, or bsky and the bottom half is just a teen boy trying to smolder into the camera one too many times and they're sick of it
It’s bananas. If Chinese spying and gathering our data is so dangerous…make it a law that stealing our data is illegal and then charge the apps that do it. They’re shutting down tiktok because they’re afraid of kids hearing speech they don’t like so they’re doing an end run around the 1st amendment.
Because one is peopled with moderates and liberals and the other one is… Discord?
because Tiktok isn't censoring what the empire is doing in Palestine
Because a solid half of the government *likes* fascists and the other half thinks it's rude to discuss them.
