And to compound this, the really good weapons in Splatoon get to have both longer range than you AND instant kill if you get close to them. I think I'm once again getting to the point of a competitive game journey where all the flaws are sticking out to me so much and really harming my enjoyment.
Playing Splattershot is starting to feel more and more like playing the same on the hardest difficulty. Everything else either has less range but kills instantly, or has more range than you so you can't fight back. I love this game, but it sucks to play weapons that feel useless 90% of the time
I've had sessions where I mostly get opponents way above my skill level, and some sessions where it's mostly below. With the very rare occasional game where things are equal. If a ranked system works, this should only be happening near release. If it's still happening after a year+, it's broken!
I think it's because almost every game tries to implement a ranking system that is proven for 1v1 stuff like chess where everything is directly under your control. With the HUGE variance that comes from multiple other people you can't control, I unfortunately don't think there's an actual solution
I wonder if there's actually a way to have good matchmaking in team-based games. Almost every one that I've played seems to have systems that work for the very top and very bottom of the player base, but is completely broken and non-functional for the 90-99% of the player base in the middle.

Land Crabs got 2nd in Iron Bracket of All for One, losing in the finals to a team that had multiple people who had gotten high Gold placements before. So not too shabby! We're proud with how we played in the bracket stage
W E L P We won 1 of our 3 sets in groups and we STILL got left in Iron Bracket. I'm playing so bad today idk what's going on. If I'm still not performing veery well after playing short range shooters for most my comp career, maybe I should ditch them and try to pickup something different.
Ceasar and her W-Engine came home! Now I can just dump the rest of my currency I get into her character banner until it ends since I don't care about the next 2 banners after this.
