There's essays to be written, I'm sure, on the effects of climate change on Helene. But this looks to me like a stochastic catastrophe. Flooding on this apocalyptic level happening in Appalachia isn't something that anyone could have seen coming or prepared for. It's an Act of God.

Obviously climate change did contribute, maybe it was the reason that it took the course it did. But the odds of something like this happening seem close to astronomical to me.
