Mallard at the Japanese garden 🦆🪶

Side view of a male Mallard facing to the left. He is on the water with a ripple in front of him.
Mallard sticking his head underwater attempting to grab one of the Koi. Once he tried this the Koi chased him off into a corner, where they then dispersed. He then faked them out and charged at one (also unsuccessful).

Cowbirds are named such because they're birds who hang around cows a lot (like, actually)

Picture of a few Brown-headed Cowbirds around the cow, in this image below the cow in the background and near the cow's hind legs. The birds are highlighted with a higher-resolution picture in the corner showing that they are indeed brown-headed (you'll have to trust me on the whole "cowbird" part of the name).

Bagworm moths construct bags out of silk and other materials like dirt, plants, and twigs to build a "shell" they surround themselves in

Bag of a bagworm moth on a leaf. The bag appears to be a bunch of twigs sewn together on the left side. There is one particularly large piece sticking out to the right on the top.
Taken by me on June 14th, 2024 on China Creek Trail, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

It's so magical to see some butterflies flying around, put your hand out, and have one land on you
