This generative ai situation is completely insane. Every major tech company is spending billions of dollars so that they can lose money running "features" that can't seem to do anything that people will pay for, and to do so it requires violating copyright and burning the planet

I’m lowkey waiting to read that generative AI is a fungal disease like valley fever

I'm super excited for my employer to quietly stop talking about it altogether after pushing it for use in menial code generation

Yeah, if they were all talking about medical applications, honing AI to review studies looking for flaws and unexpected correlations, I’d understand the justification for energy drain. But the “it’ll write the work emails nobody ever reads for you” line is so deranged.

And none of the AI output is copyrightable either, thus putting their own IP at risk.

I'll die on the hill that a model training on any work isn't any different from a human artist just using them as a mental reference. But any way, that pic could be generated in a few minutes on a modern gaming gpu too. He needs 100000x as much just to keep cult baiting venture capitalist tech bros.

I really got annoyed last night when I saw a commercial for the Pixel 9 where you can use Gemini to "trash talk" your friends by making wide receiver gloves out of butter in a text. All this money, this labor, this energy, this data mining/theft, putting it into every input.. To send a text? WTAF
