As someone who pretty much always goes the speed limit (or maybe 5ish over) and has been in one (1) car accident that was me getting rear ended it is truly buckwild how many men are in my replies going "WOW YEAH I MEAN I GO 20+ OVER AND THATS FINE BUT JEEZ THATS TOO MUCH" It's not!! Slow down!!

Going 10-15 above was considered fairly normal where/when I grew up and was learning to drive. But now that I haven't owned a car in a decade (and have existed as a pedestrian in that time), I'm much more cautious about it

Like hey if you're gonna speed, whatever, I can't stop you. But don't try and act like it's perfectly fine and safe for you to do it or justify it. You're doing a stupid, selfish thing that puts yourself and other people at risk. Just own up to it

Granted I barely drive myself but this is one of the biggest culture shocks I experience online - I swear to god you're like the first American I've seen talk about this who wasn't like "speed limits are a scam to generate money for cops". no they're not! That isn't true!

My dad used to speed just to freak me out and I never really got over it!

Yeah.... I drive a heavy as fuck vehicle. Like nearly three tons of metal down the road and people still drive irrationally. Even >30 MPH is sketch as hell if I was to ever hit another car. So people can get pissy all they like on the highway. I'm slow as a sloth. 😂

Normalize treating cars like the murder vehicles they are! Slow down with your two-ton extinction machine!!

"Speed Limits" are "Speed Minimums" to most people and that makes me go a little crazier every day.

So many people, even in my own family, try to treat me like some kind of weenie for not hauling down the highway at 15+ over the speed limit whenever I think I can get away with it.
