I posted on the other site too, but one thing the article doesn't mention is that apostrophe s to denote a proprietor of something (a pub or a hotel) has been informally around in German for centuries, you see it in old street photos from the 1800s and even in Schiller and Goethe.
2/2: Yes - it was complete, and it's a blacking bottle! This would have held 'blacking' for polishing shoes, grates, doorsteps etc. There's no name on it, but it'll be from the 1800s.
Bluesky currently makes me imagine it as a hustling and bustling 1800s European Bohemian Renaissance thing People discussing topics in coffeehouses or on the sidewalks while people create art and music in the streets. Damn, that does sound nice
We used to have that in America, but the Robber Barons got the law changed in the late 1800s.

If I die from an 1800s-ass disease I am coming back from the dead as an ENORMOUS FUCKING PROBLEM. Don’t assume you have immunity from childhood illness/vaccines; whooping cough vaccines in particular start to wane at the 5 yr mark. Get vaccinated.

Star Trek taught me nobody watches movies or tv in the future—one might read a book, but it’s either an Earth classic from no later than the 1800s or some made-up Zorp-Glop alien bullshit from the 23rd century.
