Yup! Those are aphids and the ants are looking after them.
Is my maple tree toast? I’m in North Texas and this maple has been through a lot of stress. https://www.allforgardening.com/1064623/is-my-maple-tree-toast-im-in-north-texas-and-this-maple-has-been-through-a-lot-of-stress/ It’s been through a lot including Aphids, wind damage, sun scorching this …
It’s been through a lot including Aphids, wind damage, sun scorching this summer, it was well established before the artificial turf was installed but I’m concerned the landscape company was lying when they said it would not hurt the tree to bury the crown. There are signs of small bud growth where the leaves all fell off the branches this summer (it was hot in north Texas). I’m curious if I should have it taken out or I should hold out to see if it comes back in the spring. I’m somewhere nervous about it falling or breaking again. How
(No aphids are harmed in the completion of this event. We specifically have it outlined via science, by a woman in wall-riding roller skates with a portable DJ deck, how we prevent harm to the aphids while saving them. Just gettin that out there for aphid rights folks.)
Damn, the final Children of the Echoes quest went a lot of places I did not see coming *at all*. Like…I can’t even. Have lost all ability to even. Can I even say that with certainty? Dunno; outta even. And then to follow it up with a weeklong event where we catch pumpkin-sized aphids!
I see the flowers most days, but today I stopped to see a mini world. Didn't look like the ants were harassing the caterpillar but my eyes aren't what they used to be
there are different kinds of aphids so it could be that, but the black sticky stuff is definitely not them, i'm not sure what that's about. i am guessing you're not interested in pesticides so you could try spraying the plant with water mixed with a little liquid dish soap, that might help!there are different kinds of aphids so it could be that, but the black sticky stuff is definitely not them, i'm not sure what that's about. i am guessing you're not interested in pesticides so you could try spraying the plant with water mixed with a little liquid dish soap, that might help!
any fellow plant people able to identify what's eating my basil? the damage itself made me think aphids but nothing else matches my prior experience with them!
a gardener's dilemma I never encountered until today. I've always wished for ladybugs to come and eat the aphids from my roses & milkweed. But now I need to pull up all the old bean plants (neglected the entire month of Sept) but I can't b/c it's a ladybug colony! Bad and good, both at once! 🌱
They milk aphids, so they probably made dairy cows for ants, and put them to work.
What in the hell. I will put aphids on their stringy old kale.
