In fairness, the ozone layer faded as an issue because we actually managed to address it through effective international action - the Montreal Protocol has been effective in eliminating CFCs and now ramping down their initial replacement chemicals.

One of the uses for CFCs was to etch computer chips, so big tech needed my dad. He helped design processes that used alternatives to it, and later developed filtration systems to produce high-purity water to rinse them. At one point in his career he was THE guy to go to about high-purity water
