Caltrain has a clock face time table now.
This, I think, is the better take. They thought it would be easier, but it hasn't been. A real connection between Bakersfield and LA would be hugely difficult to build, but would have immense payoff. Ditto a real link between Fresno and San Jose, particularly when combined with CalTrain.
well that cursed world paid for BART and Caltrain (and so much more of our local economy). I want to be optimistic that we can either get residents or employers to cover the shortfall but my fear is that they'll say no and regional transit goes into death spiral
I took a Caltrain and a cab in the mid-90s to Montara to check out a Firebird like this.
Took my first ride on the newly electrified Caltrain up the SF peninsula last weekend. It was the lower noise (inside but especially outside) that stood out. Those old diesel engines were f'n loud.
This still misses the point I'm trying to address here. Caltrain will go through the process for applying for it even if it's not necessary. Regardless of whether the rule is preempted, they will still use it as a justification for costly or otherwise poor solutions.
I would agree with you if Caltrain staff were sensible, but they have a pretty significant track record of not being sensible.
Yes, this is what I meant by CPUC stating that ADA preempts their own rule. However, transit agencies are notoriously cautious about relying on rulings like this. I personally guarantee should Caltrain pursue level boarding (a big if), they will still go through the process to get a waiver.
No longer accurate. See: caltrain-hsr.blogspot.com/2024/03/leve... I am not a CPUC expert but this ruling seems fairly expansive.
