The Waves and The River
Two Haibun
Written and translated by
Rebecca Freedman

When I was a child, one day I was with my father and my younger brothers bicycling in the woods of Cape Cod near the sea. The four of us were wandering over sandy paths on a rainy day. We came to a beach bluff, and under a gray sky watched the waves crashing against the sand. In that moment, I felt like we were explorers.
