This is what I suspected from crudely looking at the AIFS this hurricane season in much less detail. It's interesting that, like the work done on extratropical storm Ciaran last winter, the intricacies of the wind intensity are missed.

What does a major hurricane look like in AI weather models? Here's a comparison: first 5 panels are AI, lower right is physics-based Euro. As others have shown, they don't adequately represent intensity, but track is pretty good. FWIW, AI models are 6-12 hrs faster to landfall than the HRES. #Milton
