Worth a shot, Gods know they can use all the chem/biochem people they can get. I mean, somebody’s gotta figure out what I meant when I drew that clathrate structure. And then maybe explain it to me!
Clathrate Gun Hype House
In climate science, the "clathrate gun hypothesis" remains a pu. This theory suggests that massive releases of methane from methane clathrates in ocean sediments can cause rapid and severe climate change. However, the triggers and full impact of these releases are not fully understood.
Although this would embrittle plastic and rubber in real life, dry ice? Or if you want violently flammable results and less embrittlement, methane clathrate.
Nobody wants to talk about it but there are glaring unknowns wrt responses relating to methane, whether from the tropics, permafrost thaw, or gas hydrates (clathrate deposits in the ocean). We really need to avoid running that experiment.
BYD is the largest electric car manufacturer on earth. that tesla is a household name but you haven't even HEARD of BYD is another reason to shit on tesla from a great height. im using clathrate gun as a shorthand for several feedback loops, but ocean acidification/heat is/are one/two of them yes.
Interesting. I hadn't heard of the 'clathrate gun" hypothesis until now. Is your idea that it is anthropogenic founded on warming oceans (about which my brief google survey seems skeptical) or something else. Also, what's BYD?
b/c the sum total of human ingenuity has resulted in an anthropogenic clathrate gun thats firing RIGHT NOW, and in the USA we're fucking around with useless bullshit that sucks, doesn't work, and wastes time+resources we dont have and solves nothing while BYD is doing victory laps all over the world
