David Sherman has a very interesting journal article on the obstacles the US and UK Governments put up to the publication of some of the material in that 1967 first edition of The Codebreakers. Kahn eventually became beloved of the NSA which had him as a visiting historian for a time. 🧵

David Kahn was a remarkable man. He had an interest in codes from when he was a boy. The National Cryptologic Museum has a remarkable artifact in that connection. Became a journalist and wrote the monumental The Codebreakers in the 1960s and went on to become the dean of intel historians.
