The knights in shiny armour shite may be wank, but I gotta give the Vulgate Merlin credit for Merlin going full "immigrants are this land's salvation!" mode to spur the Camelot Young Team to go help Sagremor's (*ahem* Sacre Moor) lads all newly arrived from Constantinople & run straight into Saxons.

Like a lot of big states simply called themselves "the empire". Constantinople was literally called "The City" (eis tin polis), which eventually became Istambul. Antioch and Alexandria were both named after some random dudes. There was a city literally called "Khosrow's Better Antioch"

Well, it certainly lasted well past the advent of Christianity and the barbarian invasions (assuming the invasion we're talking about isn't the fall of Constantinople to the Turks).

I might be wrong on this one, but I heard that Constantinople became Istanbul because Istanbul means "the city" or something like it, so when the Turks took Constantinople, they officially named it "the city", which they were already calling it. People name it like they see it.

I am not worrying about the election. I'm doing what I can to get out the vote by tabling a couple of times a week in a nearby mini-mall.I will vote. In the meantime, I keep up with the news, read about the history of Constantinople & a futuristic novel about climate change. It's all good.
